How to Fix VMware Error PSC or VCSA in Maintenance Mode Ctrl+ D – VirtuallyThatGuy

So yesterday I restarted my Synology and completely forgot to shut down the lab gracefully. On restarting the VMs, both psc’s and vCSA started throwing up with errors “VCSA 6.5 ‘Failed to start File System Check'” – I did a few googling as I’m not a Linux expert and couldn’t find any solutions on the web. Thankfully I asked a few Linux sys admins and below proposed solution worked for me:

VCSA PSC or Embedded Appliance Emergency Maintenance mode

Enter root password and re-enter when promoted again. Enable shell and run command below

fsck  /dev/mapper/log_vg-log

fsck /dev/sda3

Answer yes to all and reboot

The PSC /VCSA should be back to normal after gracefully reboot.
